Billy Merrell grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, and began writing poetry around eighth grade. He was the winner of the first PUSH Writing Internship and during his internship he wrote the poetry memoir, Talking in the Dark. Billy's work has also appeared in the anthology You Are Here, This Is Now: The Best Young Writers and Artists in America and he co-edited The Full Spectrum: A New Generation of Writing About Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, and Other Identities with David Levithan. Billy currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
